BP ADL Grand Final

BP

//

2025

As the naming partner of the Adelaide Supercars Grand Final, BP wanted a standout fan activation using 360Pro video technology. The brief was intentionally open - simply to create something visually impressive and highly shareable that connected with the energy of motorsport.

Project considerations

Rather than producing a standard 360 video, we planned to transform the experience into a race-track POV moment. The rotating camera became the perspective of a car moving around the track while the participants stood at the centre, celebrating as if they were on the circuit during a race.

Using AI subject segmentation, animated elements were layered both in front of and behind the guests to create a fully immersive motorsport scene. 3D racing lights, smoke, branded Supercars and finishing flag animations appeared as the camera rotated around them.

To heighten the experience, the video included a structured edit with an intro, music, race commentary, speed ramping and dramatic slow-motion moments. The result was a dynamic, shareable video that made the fan feel like they were standing in the middle of a live race.

Extremely short 2-week turnaround time

Working within a tight 3m x 3m activation footprint

Finding the right focal length to fit guests in frame without excessive distortion

Defining which visual elements would best sell the race-track concept

Mapping animations to sit both in front of and behind the subject

Synchronising all animation with the rotational speed of the 360 camera

Development

Phase 1:

Concept Development

The first step was defining how the 360Pro experience could genuinely reflect motorsport rather than simply using the rotating camera as a novelty. The concept positioned guests in the centre of a race track while the camera acted as the viewpoint of a car moving around them.

This framing allowed us to build an immersive environment where animated race elements could appear and interact with the participants as the camera rotated.

Phase 2:

Camera & Space Engineering

The activation space was limited to just 3m x 3m, which required careful experimentation with different lens options to capture participants without excessive distortion.

To simulate the real activation conditions, we mapped the exact dimensions inside our lab and tested multiple configurations using our 360Pro rig. After extensive testing, we settled on a 16mm prime lens at f2.8, which provided the best balance of field of view and natural perspective.

Phase 3:

Animation & Video Production

Our in-house animator developed a layered animation system designed specifically for the rotation of the 360Pro camera. Using AI segmentation, animated elements were positioned both in front of and behind participants, creating depth within the scene.

The sequence included racing lights, smoke effects, 2 BP Supercars flying past and a finishing flag moment. To make the experience feel cinematic, the video also incorporated race commentary audio, music and speed ramping that simulated high-speed straights and slow-motion cornering.

Phase 4:

Live Activation & Fan Experience

On-site, the team refined the experience by carefully positioning the camera start points and guiding participants on when to celebrate and when to engage with the camera. Branding was integrated across every touchpoint, including a custom BP vinyl wrap on the 360Pro Booth, a branded microsite and a custom user interface for content delivery.

Over the 3-day activation, the experience generated more than 400 videos, with fans reacting enthusiastically as the unexpected animations and race audio transformed their moment into a dramatic motorsport highlight ready for social sharing.
